sooo. i know their have been threads already concerning this but none of them addressed what i wanted to know so here it goes.


my car is obd1 so from headers it joins togethor for a stretch for the o2 sensor.
im thinking if i cut it here, and weld in a Y pipe i'd only need one cutout.

youll see the o2 sensor is after the piece i'd wana cut so i was thinking plug that hole and within the y pipe id be using just b4 it Y's tap a hole and put it there.

i dont have the money to spend on a nice exhaust,
and i really like the idea of being able to cruise around quietly and then open it up when im in the country and hearing the raw engine sound (alot of people complain about the buzzyness or w/e, that doesnt bother me i like me some raw sound)

from what i can gather for me:

pros:
can drive home quietly and not wake up people.
can drive home loudly and wake up people :evil2
ability to have on demand loud engine
cons:
space constraints
cost (around 100-200 depending how its done)
possible problems with having opening that close to headers.

Hi there,

I have a BMW E36 318i 1995 semi-automatic convertible. A couple of days ago my rollover protection bars deployed on a jumpy road, luckily it was a sunny day so the top was down. I got the rollover bars reset with the aid of a katana, as the specific tool did not come with the toolkit. So far so good, but the top never worked again.

The issue is that there is no movement or noise at all when operating the top button. Things I have already tried and checked :

- changed all 3 fuses # 7, 35 and 43 in the fuse box. There is no fuse by the battery in the trunk in my car. The fuses were alright and no changes.

- Disengaged both motors as per emergency procedure (lever under back seat), folded the top into it's towaway compartment and re-engaged the motors to do the top reset procedure pushing top up with key in position 2 as shown in the famous reset video. No movement or noise.

I have top lid (tonneau) switch confirming operation locking-unlocking the trunk as I push the lid down, and the motors disengage and re-engage fine, but no power gets to them apparently.

Currently I have both motors disengaged and I am using the top in manual mode. I recently changed the top's back plastic window as in semi-auto mode it never folded evenly and it teared with the use. The problem with it is the lid (tonneau) cover which takes re-engaging the top lid motor every time one wants it fully shut, then disengaging the top lid motor again to put the top up, and opening the trunk when the top's down by pushing the lid in for the microswitch to release the trunk lock. Not quite Ivy League.

I have no way of reading the ECU and as far as I see all cables from the top control in the back seat side, motors and lid hatches are as they should. If there is a sensor not telling the top control that the rollover protection is back into starting position, I don't know where to find it or how to check it, but I get no error lights in the dashboard either.

My question is, is there something else I can do to troubleshoot this problem before I give up ? Going to the dealer is out of the question.

Okay, this may be a dumb question....

Im going to fit some BBS RC041s from a 325is M-Tech to my new Ti tomorrow. This is my first BMW and i am OCD about these rims as i paid big cabbage for them and looked a long time for a set in stock form i wanted to buy, id need to be sedated if they were damaged by something as stupid as this. So...

Do i need special lugs to avoid damage and allow proper seating in these wheels or will the stock lugs work fine?

I recall that back in the day i had to get special lugs to fit some BBS RAs on my 81 VW Scirocco. Car had bizarre varying seats on lug nuts.

I just want to get everything ready in advance to avoid any wasted time, damage to my favorite wheels ever, or disappointments.

Here is a link to real oem parts breakdown for this wheel. Is that just the standard BMW lug bolt. I cannot find one in a TI specific diagram for cross reference.

CAR: 2001 525i E39 2.5 litre M54 Engine.

To get access to the Spark Plugs and Ignition Coils at the Rear of my cars engine I need to first remove the AIR DUCT & POLLEN FILTER HOUSING.

I cannot locate any "HOW TO" guide's and I cannot locate any previous posts in this Forum or on YouTube for any Video instructions.

Can someone please point me in the right direction with a Step by Step guide on how to remove the above components on a 2.5 litre M54 engine.

I'm reluctant to tackle this blind without some instructions to start me off or show me how its done.

Hey everyone,

Finally got the car I've wanted since I was a wee little one...haha. Had quite a few other fun cars in my, so far, short stay on this round planet we call home. But, this is my first German car, and most important of all, first BMW.


Short background, I'm a Mopar guy. I love Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler, but, during the 80s on up, Chrysler Corp didn't offer much in the RWD segment. Being I'm still a young'n, 80s cars are the only ones really affordable to me.
So, I've had a few Mitsubishi Starions, an RX7, a Dodge Omni GLH (still have), a Shelby Charger, etc. But, this is my first E30...the one I've wanted from the get go.


Anyway...fast forward to yesterday...finally picked up one I fell in love with. A 1987 325e. Dark blue with blue interior, 5 speed. Body is rock solid, just has some peeling clear coat, car runs excellent...only the trans has issues...which leads to my questions.

Car runs and drives like a dream, but, shifting is very difficult. Being the deal I got the car for, I wasn't too worried about it...but...more or less, the clutch does not disengage all the way.

It doesn't seem like a hydraulics issue as pumping it does nothing, but...clutch all the way in, its hard to get into any gear at a stop, and once your in gear, if your on a flat surface, clutch pedal still to the floor...the car moves very slowly.

I read something about a clutch fork pivot ball? Does that sound like a possibility? Car has in the neighborhood of 190k miles. I had an SRT4 and that pivot ball was verrrry common.

Once your moving, as long as you rev match shift, it shifts easier, but still not easily. Car came with a brand new clutch I plan on changing within the next week.

Also...when driving after the car sits long enough for the trans to cool, it makes a rattling sound...quite audible...gets faster with speed.

Once I shift into 5th gear, the sound goes away and will not come back until I park the car for an hour or so.

Any ideas? Lol. A strange one to me, but, maybe a common issue?

And, occasionally the check engine light flashes for a minute or so then shuts off. The oil light is on in the overhead console, but level is good and pressure is fine, so, I'm assuming a bad sender. (can that cause the Check engine light).

Other than that, I love it. Cruised about 70 miles on the highway smooth as silk on a little less than an 1/8th tank.

Its also lowered on H&R springs with tokico? struts and brand new Rota RB 15x7 with a 205/50 tire. Got a lot of looks and even a thumbs on the way home, so, I love it already...haha.

I'll get some pictures tomorrow, but, here's one from tonight. (yes, it had a german style tag that the PO removed...I'll be getting another) I haven't even had a chance to detail it yet.

I was told i have to read out the data from EWS module first and then reprogram keys, so i used the BMW EWS programmer which i purchased from ecutool.com.

I take out the EWS from car, find the pinout and connect to EWS programmer, just like this:

After i verify the wiring diagram correctly, then i install the EWS software in my computer, trying to read out the data for renew key.

Then reprogram my used key:

I have a 1997 318IS with cracked headers. I just bought headers from another 318IS at the junk yard that is good. Here's my dilemma. My car has a tube going to the Piersburg pump (I think that's what it's called).

Can I completely remove that pump so I can install the headers that I got from the junkyard without any adverse affect on my car?

Hey guys,

Just very recently my 530i has developed what seems to be a rough idle, mainly when the car is warm. Only shows a rough idle, drives and pulls fine.

Preventative maintenance has always been done
-new intake gaskets 2 years ago (less than 15,000miles)
-new vacuum lines for EGR, check valves, etc

I'm going to be changing the spark plugs whenever I receive them from delivery. Going to be using original plugs. Currently In it is Bosch Platnium +4's that have been in the car for a few years now, but with no issues until the past few days.

Idle changes when the mass airflow sensor is disconnected (assume its working fine?)

Idle slightly changes, but car runs rich (by smell) when the ICV is disconnected, This might be a possible culprit.

The motor mounts are not old, but I do need to inspect them. Last I checked they were fine.

I might change the coolant temp sensor just for preventative maintenance.

Any ideas or other suggestions on what to check?

Hey guys. I have some vibration issues in my car when revving beyond 4k. When I bought the car 83000km (52000mi) ago, it didn't have that. I recently replaced the engine mounts, and the transmission mounts seem fine (the shift lever moves maybe 1cm when I floor it in second). I'm thinking possible culprits are:
- flex disc
- center bearing
- diff bushing

None of these have been replaced while I owned the car (105000mi on the odo then). I don't really want to tackle either one on jackstands with my limited tools and experience, but if I have to, I will. Which one is your money on? And is there a diagnosis for these parts?

I bought angel eyes for my stock xenon 540. I was instructed to use the stock ballast and bulbs but could change bulbs if i wanted. So i did to 12000k and 3 bulbs have burnt out in 3 days. 2 in one light and 1 in the other headlight. Do the stock ballast not work right with 12000k bulbs. Please help!! Thank you..

Tonight, when checking my ps fluid, I accidentally broke the coolant line that runs to the airbox...

Tonight, when checking my ps fluid, I accidentally broke the coolant line that runs to the airbox thermostat. The ps reservoir was unfortunately open at the time, and I'm not sure how much spilled. I took a sample with a syringe and there are definitely bubbles of coolant/water mix in the fluid. I'm sure the bubbles have settled into the system.... On a brighter note, the fluid looked pretty clean and red, just a little dark.

As fate would have it, I was planning on flushing the system tomorrow, following these DIY threads:

My question is: how many times should I cycle the system (turning steering wheel and refilling) during the bleed process to make sure all of the coolant mixture is flushed from the system?

Any tips here? Feeling like a complete dumbass :( , but hoping a simple flush will take care of the contamination.

PS I rerouted the long coolant hose back into the throttle body, away from the intake sensor, and removed the smaller hose with the broken plastic fitting. Is this an ok temporary solution?

i get very hot air coming through the steering wheel column and making the leg/feet area just very warm...have to turn the A/C on to keep the area cool.... hvac works well o/w... what gives???

besides that when i bought the car it still had this noise; which is why im using the previous owners youtube video, but the car pulled like a dream and was a bit faster compared to the e46 m3. then my idle was a little bouncy when stopping and i decided to clean my maf and then the car would run and i stopped on the road and had to unplug my maf to be able to get home. when i got a new maf the car feels sluggish and doesnt pull as hard and even cuts the rpms out early( i used to reach 7k rpm now cuts out a 5500) someone told me it could be the o2 sensors or abs sensor since my abs light turn on and off every time i drive.
