Hi guys,

So, I bought my 740iL back in December last year, with 109,000km. In the stack of receipts was an invoice for four new tyres, and a wheel alignment, done by the previous owner at 108,000km.

The car now has 118,5xxkm, so about 10,000km since the new tyres (~6,250 miles).

I was stunned a couple of thousand km ago to notice that the rears were down to the indicators, and then checked them again a few weeks later to notice that they were completely stuffed! The front tyres are fine with plenty of tread still (over 4mm I'd say). Here's a pic of how the rears looked:



With all the rain we've been having lately, I'm surprised the car stayed on the road.

Anyway, this morning I took the car to the local tyre shop and bought some new 255/45 18 103Y Kumho KU39s for the rear. I also got another wheel alignment. Here's the report:



So it looks like they dialed out some fairly noticeable positive toe on the RHS of both axles. Camber at both axles appears not too bad from my POV.

The tyres seem pretty well worn across the whole width of the tyre, maybe slightly more on the insides, but not by much. A big upside of the new alignment is that the little bum-waggle or skip to the side that the rear end used to do when going over a bump, ridge, pothole etc, seems to have been totally eliminated and the car now tracks straight and true over bumps.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing the monumental tyre wear though? LCABs? Being my daily, this car gets mostly city driving with some highway and the very occasional twisty road. The DSC always stays on and I don't push it that hard in the corners (that's what the other car is for! :) Having said that, I know it's a 4,300lb car; but 6,000 miles or 10,000km for a set of rears is just ridiculous I think...
